After initially thinking that they had missed out again by finishing runners up in their League for the second year, the RFUW have recognised Hitchin's consistency and ambitious expansion by promoting the Ladies to National Championship league South East North 2. This means that Hitchin will have a number of local derbies this year against Tabard, Hertford, OA Saints 2nds and Harlow.
Having doubled their membership and increased numbers at training and matches each week, the team will have to up their game again to meet the new challenge. Team Coach Tim Bonnett says, "We had a chance to be promoted by right but had a couple of unlucky results. The team have the ability to play at this level and we must ensure we have the fitness and confidence to sustain our progress."
Hitchin Ladies are still looking for talented young ladies to join the team so if any Mini/Junior mums, player wives and girlfriends or anyone you know wants to try rugby, send them to Hitchin. Training re-starts on July 6th but the Ladies will be supporting the 1st team training from 22nd June as well.
