The changing room demolition team
These are exciting times for Hitchin Rugby Club. We have just sealed the 99-year lease with North Hertfordshire District Council for the clubhouse and related facilities at Old Hale Road.
We have also agreed a 20-year management agreement to cover all the sports facilities which are on offer at the King George V playing fields.
And we are about to embark on the ambitious clubhouse rebuilding programme to upgrade our facilities. The first phase of the £1.2m project is due to commence in April with the £475,000 construction of six new changing rooms. Financially, this first stage is being supported by Sport England, the Rugby Football Foundation and The Valiant Trust with HRFC providing over £100,000 from our own development fund.
All this of course is in addition to the club achieving full charity status back in February - cementing the club’s position as a true amateur community rugby club.
Hitchin Rugby Club is currently has over 525 children and 200 men and women all learning or playing rugby from the ages of 5 to 60. Additionally the King Georges V playing fields also host football, amateur summer Rugby League and Hitchin Running Club.
Chair of the Business Committee, Peter Tasko said ‘The successful conclusion of the negotiations have enabled us to form a long term partnership between HRFC and NHDC which will give security for the club and the community resources of the field for the foreseeable future.’
