Hitchin A 39 Harrow 0   HML Division 3 U14

Tries Dan Holland 2, Ashley White, Jordan Mensah, Saiful Alom, Max Smith, Benji Cowell.
Cons Max Smith 2

It's been a pleasure this season to report on some very promising displays from this Hitchin side. Today I can report on a display which had power, pace, tenacity, discipline, teamwork  and that doesn't even begin to tell the story of what was truly excellent performance from the Hedgehogs.

Hitchin played the first half with a strong wind behind them and they didn't waste the opportunity. Dan C kicked Hitchin into decent territory and 'Jacks pack' kept the Harrow side pinned firmly in their own 22.
Dan H opened the scoring powering through for the first try. The second try came from a long kick by Dan C, the ball held up right in the corner and when the Harrow full back failed to clear it was pounced on by Ashley W whose lightning pace got it's just rewards. The Harrow full back was given a torrid time in the wind and put up a valiant display in the circumstances. Tom B on the other hand coming in at full back for the hedgehogs positioned himself well but could have easily tucked into a packed lunch on the half way line! (Your time for a little more ball in hand will come)

Jordan claimed the third try following a fine switch move and Max the fourth, again following fine handling and interplay from the back line. Saiful capped off his return to the side with a burst of pace down the outside left and running the try under the posts. A couple of conversions from Max saw us go into half time 29-0 ahead.

In the second half Hitchin conquered the wind and some indiscipline and aggression from their opponents and continued to dominate territory. Dan H powered over for his second try following a well practised penalty move and Benji completed the scoring with a try from a quickly taken restart. Max was denied a fine try by a forward pass following an excellent move and Jamie H was held up just short following a jinking run from 25 yards out.
Seven tries saw the final score of 39-0.

A phenomenal display of attacking rugby and superb defence high up the pitch. It's probably not far off the mark to say that the last time the backs dominated the try scoring everyone had tag belts on! They finally gave their hard working forwards their just reward. The pack were fantastic - business like and efficient. They never allowed Harrow to settle. Their scrummaging was powerful and the front row superb. Ben F dominated the line outs and the back row no matter how they line up continue to execute the game plan superbly. A special mention of Dan B today coming in on the blind side and demonstrating the value of his versatility to the team.

Man of the match today - all 19

Top stuff. Long may it continue.
