U14s Bedford B 5 v Hitchin A 60
Tries Saiful 4, Freddy 4, Dan C 1, Conor 1. Conversions Dan C 5
The A team visited Bedford for a hastily arranged friendly. The Hitchin squad are showing good resilience and have strength in depth despite several injuries at the moment. Our A team squad however, were a little too strong for an inexperienced Bedford B team from the outset.
Bedford’s lack of commitment in the tackling department was a gift for an increasingly strong running Saiful in the centre as he racked up a swift hat-trick of tries in the first 15 minutes.
Bedford’s try came midway through the first half, a tenacious effort from the scrum half but this unfortunately didn't lead to a resurgence from the home side.
As the game went on Freddy's power also became a factor as he ran in 4 tries. Saiful bagged himself another and Dan C flopped on one in touch in the second half. Our 10th and final try was the pick of the bunch, with some excellent recycling and handling being finished off by Conor on the wing with a powerful run and nonchalant one handed finish.
Daniel C added 5 conversions including a drop kick after the ball blew over in the wind.
All in all the team gelled well with players developing in new positions. Mention should be made of Jordan at inside centre who had a really strong game and Harry who filled in for the opposition in the second half (maybe a little too well !). Oh and the referee was superb ! (Was it our Colin by any chance? Ed)
