The M&Y Player and Team awards for the 2010-2011 season are as follows:
TEAM AWARDS
MINI TEAM OF THE YEAR - UNDER 10s: an incredibly difficult decision this year with all age groups, especially the U8s and U9s being strong contenders. But the award goes to the U10s for their play and results all season including a County cup semi final and a County Plate semi final. Winners of the Cambridge Festival. Great parental involvement and engagement. Coach Andy Dudley was once again a finalist in the Comet Sports Awards Coach of the Year section. For their playing performances all season, organisation as an age group, parental involvement and festival success.
SPIRIT OF RUGBY AWARD (Mini/Midi) – UNDER 7s: a great credit to the club! A tribute to the organisation and commitment of the Lead Coach, Christophe Lavialle, ably supported by Mark Scott and others. The playing strength in U6s and U7s is around 50 players and all are happy, engaged, keen and committed. They are also developing great skills. It has been a delight to see the U6s still having fun on Sundays when the U7s are away. The bedrock of our club.
YOUTH TEAM OF THE SEASON – UNDER 17s: Incredibly difficult to award due to the fantastic seasons of all youth teams from U13 to U17. The U14s made a strong claim but in the end it was between the U15s (Champions of Division 2) and the U17s (Champions of Division 1). Awarded to the U17s for their unbeaten Herts/Middx Division One season, winning the league at the first attempt and being our first ever First Division Champions. Also winning the Hilversum Festival beating the Dutch U17 team in the final game and having 7 players involved at County U18 level. This follows being Division 2 Champions at U16 level.
SPIRIT OF RUGBY AWARD (Youth) – UNDER 14s: Again could have been won by all squads. However given to the U14s for a successful playing season combined with a group of parents fully involved with the club (e.g. 3 tables at the Rugby Ball, party in the club last Sunday etc). The game is played in the right spirit – very tough, very aggressive, very fair and always sportingly.
SPECIAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARD – UNDER 17s: (an award that is only occasionally given). Went to the age group for their togetherness and rugby skills since age 5! Two mini County Cups, 2 x Barnet Festival, 2 x Tring Festival, 2 x County Youth finals, Worthing Festival runners up, U16s HML Division 2 Champions, U17s HML Division 1 Champions, Hilversum Festival winners, School of Rugby and County team honours!
TONY MANGOLD CUP – Michael Emmerson: Awarded by the Mini & Youth Chairman to someone who has given much to the section. This year the Cup has gone to Michael Emmerson. Michael is secretary to the Mini and Youth Committee and has done a superb job at minutes and all sorts of work behind the scenes. He has always helped out in other areas, including membership this season, and is not afraid of hard work on behalf of the section. He has managed the transition from me to Phil Dickson-Earle superbly and is a force for continuity. He freely admits he knows nothing about rugby but it hasn’t stopped him being the correspondent for the Perfect Under 17s. He’s also a good tourist and good to have a drink with!
