Academy 44 v 19 Ruislip Rugby Football Club - Home League on 16 Dec 2012
Published on Thursday, 20 December 2012
On a mild December Sunday, Hitchin Colts took on a drilled Ruislip team. The Colts kicked off and after a couple of silly handling errors by Ruislip, Callum ‘T’ ripped the ball, off loaded onto Callum ‘M’ who scored the colts first try which was not converted. 5-0. Shortly after the Kick off the Colts forwards retained the ball which was subsequently fed out to the backs, after a few swift moves, Kyle run over the line to score the colt’s second try. 10-0. Ruislip pulled their socks up and applied some pressure which eventually turned into Ruislip’s first try and although it was taken over the line 5 yards from the corner flag, Ruislip made a magnificent kick between the posts 10-7. The Colts sprung back with ball retention by the forwards and kick ball back the backs, was this poetry in motion? Speedy Matt scored a super try between the posts which was dually converted. 17-7. Unfortunately Ruislip pulled a quick try back to make the score 17-14. During the match there was a slight disagreement which resulted in both ‘Colts and Ruislip’ player’s being sent off. Power and conviction paid off as good team work and movement of the ball resulted in Callum ‘T’ scoring another Colts try 24-14 Half time.
With a few changes and fresh legs, the Colts started as they finished the first half. It was so good to see quick ball being fed out to the backs that supported each other running in two’s, ready for the off load. This was done three times which resulted in Pappy’s try. 29-14. Shortly afterwards Tom Attwell scored a good try left hand side of the posts. 34-14. Next up was Billy whiz, eventually after a couple of occasions, Billy was off like a shot, and nobody could catch him as he trotted over his try. Which I was told was converted 41-14. Ruislip pulled a consolation try back to make the final score 41-19 or was it 44-19. The Ref’s score stands!
Well done to the captain Amos and to Callum T who was man of the match. This was a good performance by all the squad. David
Guys
Great win today. 44-19 against a good Ruislip side. A very simple game is rugby - forwards that win the ball, keep the ball and give it to backs that can pass the ball and run hard at the opposition! Great to watch and I'm sure it was great to play in. I think there are other teams in the club that could learn a lot by watching today's game!?! Man of the match was Callum Taylor but some pretty damn good performances all round with Stefan and Afo mentioned in dispatches.
Good to see half a dozen U16s watching too. Good spirit.
Also good to see the host of U19 parents comes out to watch - all just itching to get back to the club. Good to see the Attwells, Willoughby senior, Mr Tilley, Sid, Gyula, Braveheart, Phil and Alison, TJ Walt, the Mr Barnes who has got his priorities sorted and Waterboy all join for a reunion. Tim J
