Finsbury Park visited Old Hale Way for this mid table clash
Finsbury kicked off against the wind and it was 15 minutes before they got into the Hitchin 22, where a knock on allowed Hitchin to clear their lines. With Hitchin getting the upper hand in the scrum. several scrum penalties allowed Hitchin into the Park 22, and good forward work was rewarded on the half hour with Sean McGinnity scoring from 2 metres out, Ben Wiggins adding the extras.
A few minutes later another penalty against Park went narrowly wide.
Half time score Hitchin 7 Finsbury Park 0
This was changed within a minute of the restart when Hitchin allowed the returned kick off to bounce and the Park winger to dot down for a converted try to level the scores.
Hitchin worked themselves to within 5 metres of the Finsbury line but the ball was lost and Park cleared their lines with a kick to touch on their 22.
A series of missed tackles then allowed Finsbury Park to score again, this time unconverted.
A well worked move in their backs resulted in Park scoring again, and with the kick successful the visitors led 19-7
Hitchin finished strongly, with the pack in control, but despite several incursions to within 5 metres of the Finsbury line and being held up over the line, Hitchin could not make up the deficit and the final score remained 19 – 7 to the visitors.
