Despite
powerful runs up the pitch by James Bolter and Sean McGinnity, they lacked
support and 21 minutes in Stevenage were awarded a penalty which they kicked to
touch, & from the resulting lineout ran
the ball wide and then cut back to score an unconverted try. This simple
game plan was repeated twice more to make the halftime score 17 - 0 to the home
side.
2 minutes
into the second half Stevenage score again but Hitchin struck back 3 minutes
later with a well taken try by Ben Wiggins, converted by himself.
Scores by
the Stevenage wing and two forward scores, both from Hitchin line outs ,saw the
score stretch to 41 - 7 and then a promising Hitchin attack broke down
when the ball was intercepted and the Stevenage player ran in from 75m to score under the posts.
Hitchin never gave up, & tackled
well, but in the end Stevenage were too powerful for them
