1st XV 7 v 26 Stevenage Town RFC - Home League on 16 Sep 2017

Published on Tuesday, 19 September 2017

The first local derby of the season did not go Hitchin’s way, as they let in visitors Stevenage to score two tries in the first 15 minutes to take a useful lead. First Ian Crompton took advantage as the hone side ‘s attack broke down, and later George Turvey added to the score, converted by Adrian Curry

Prop Sean Mcginnity scored for Hitchin after a period of pressure on the Stevenage line, crashing over from 5 m , for Jack Peachey to covert from the touchline, to reduce the deficit t0 7 – 12

However, as half time approached, Stevenage took the wind from the Hitchin sails, adding a

try from Conor Mitchell , converted by Andrew Malins, to lead 19-7

The home side came to life in the second half putting together some good moves, with Utah Taylor-Surman coming close to crossing the line . The driving rain made attacking & running rugby difficult, and play switched from end to end. Hitchin had periods of possession and territory, but were unable to break the visitors defence

As the game drew to a close, Stevenage scored their 4th & bonus point try (Ben Hodge), converted again by Malins ,to take an unassailable lead into the final minutes

Hitchin  travel to OMT’s RFC on Saturday, seeking their first win
