National colts cup
Hitchcin 45 Barnet Elizabethans 0
Hitchin U 18’s followed up their previous week’s full on 15 man rugby with another emphatic result in the first round of the National Colts Cup with a 48- 7 victory against Barnet this Sunday. The game was stopped with agreement from both coaches and referee, when the score reached this point and with 2 Barnet players injured with 20 minutes of second half remaining. It was a justified decision, apart from being in the rules, neither side would have gained much from continuing. As a result, the official score is recorded as 45 - 0
>
Following the old adage, you can only play what is in front of you, a depleted Hitchin side stacked up a half time lead of 35 points by playing open, structured and attractive rugby at a pace the visitors could not compete with.
>
> Difficult to give a man of the match award but Joshua Stallard got it with an outstanding performance, scoring 3 tries having discovered he actually has got a pair of legs and surprising lung capacity.
>
> New boy Favour Maduka fitted straight into the team at centre and capped a fine performance with2 well taken tries. He mentioned afterwards that the banter was as good as the performance from his new teammates. Try scoring machine Jordan Williams scored another 2, with Robert Austin reminding us of his speed with an inside fade and outside break to finish the scoring. Pete Stanbury got 4 conversions.
