LV Cup - Ladies Under Lights
On friday night, Hitchin Ladies played their first ever Ladies Under Lights Tournament. It was always going to be a tough night of Rugby for Hitchin with teams from leagues above attending, but Hitchin placed a very respectable second in the Cup with outstanding play from all players and it was arguably their best performance of the whole season. Still buzzing from their away fixture only 5 days previous, the team showed super aggression and coverage on the pitch, and portrayed the motivation and drive to succeed.
Amy Haughton and Claire Crompton made storming hits and Jan Haines notably demonstrated quick thinking and reactive play. Great runs from Jade Cooper, Sarah McCarthy and Natalie Mellowship ensured that Hitchin kept the opposition on their toes and that they would not go down without a fight. Lucy Kennedy and Hannah Smith demonstrated their true passion and understanding for the game along with injured team Captain Steph Biggar who coached from the side lines. The backs showed great drive with attacking runs and support play and the forwards showed cracking defence along with massive determination and strength.
Over the season, the ladies have developed into playing an expansive style that has reaped reward. Whilst moving the ball through the hands, Hitchin Ladies have made simple Rugby look exciting. Although they are still looking for a full time, quality coach, this hasn't stopped dedication from the whole team, with the commitment and thirst to achieve.
