Finsbury Park kicked off and Hitchin were soon penalised in their own 22 for hanging on, luckily the kick went wide.
Finsbury Park were not to be denied as they kept up the pressure and another penalty was kicked for a lineout 7 metres out from the Hitchin line. Gaining possession, they moved the ball to the other side and back again enabling the winger to go over unopposed for an unconverted try.
A further penalty allowed Finsbury Park to get within 5m of the Hitchin line and from the lineout they went over for a converted try.
A penalty for a high tackle against Finsbury Park was kicked for a lineout 7 meters out from their line and after several phases Sean McGinnity was able to power over the line for a try which was converted by Ben Wiggins.
This brought the half time score to 12 – 7 in favour of the home team.
Kicking off down the slight slope Hitchin were awarded a scrum 5metres from the Finsbury Park line and the pack, which was gaining dominance with every scrum, pushed the opposition over for Dan Wiggins to touch down for a try converted by his brother Ben.
A penalty against Hitchin for not rolling away was converted to bring the score to 15 – 14 in favour of the home side
Play oscillated between the two twenty twos and both sides lost players to yellow cards but were unable to capitalise
Finsbury Park were attempting to play a wide game and gave away an interception which Dan Wiggins ran in from half way and which his brother converted.
A second interception try by Will Rooney again converted by Ben Wiggins put the match out of reach of Finsbury Park, and Hitchin remain top of the league.
